{"id":7753,"date":"2007-02-19T17:16:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-19T17:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pharma-mkting.com\/phrma-responds-to-my-rozerem-ad-concern\/"},"modified":"2019-02-21T01:26:28","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T01:26:28","slug":"phrma-responds-to-my-rozerem-ad-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/phrma-responds-to-my-rozerem-ad-concern\/","title":{"rendered":"PhRMA Responds to My Rozerem Ad &#8220;Concern&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back on January 29, 2007, I wrote about Takeda&#8217;s violation of PhRMA&#8217;s DTC Guiding Principle #10, which prohibits DTC &#8220;reminder ads&#8221; on TV and in print ads (see &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2007\/01\/rozerem-reverts-to-reminder-tv-ads.html\">Rozerem Reverts to Reminder TV Ads<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>Although Takeda the VERY NEXT DAY claimed that it wasn&#8217;t a reminder ad at all &#8212; see &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2007\/01\/takeda-it-isnt-reminder-ad-wha.html\">Takeda: It Isn&#8217;t a Reminder Ad &#8212; Wha!!!<\/a>&#8221; &#8212; I begged to differ. On January 31, 2007, I filed a complaint with PhRMA&#8217;s Office of Accountability and sent copies to Mark Booth, the president of Takeda Pharmaceutical North America and Matt Kuhn, the Takeda spokesperson who claimed no foul (see &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2007\/01\/tilting-again-at-phrma-windmill.html\">Tilting Again at the PhRMA Windmill<\/a>&#8221; for a copy of the letter I sent).<\/p>\n<p>The last time I sent such a compliant to PhRMA &#8212; regarding violation of priciple #10 by another sleep aid brand (Lunesta) &#8212; it took them almost 2 months to send me a response from &#8220;Emily,&#8221; the PhRMA Intern! (see &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/phrmas-response-prwise-it-stinks.html\">PhRMA&#8217;s Response &#8211; PRwise, it Stinks!<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>This time, I received a response from PhRMA in less than 3 weeks! In it they acknowledge my &#8220;specific concern regarding principle #10.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.pharma-mkting.com\/PhRMA-Letter-Takeda_021207.pdf\">View the letter and envelope here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike last time, the envelope does not have &#8220;Office of Accountability&#8221; handwritten in crayon over the logo on the front. It&#8217;s neatly laser-printed on the flap (a cheap alternative to wasting money printing special Office of Accountability envelopes; after all, how many of these letters do you think they send out?).<\/p>\n<p>The letter is actually SIGNED by Paul Antony, MD, MPH, Director, Office of Accountability.
