It&#8217;s got to be the worst DTC print ad I&#8217;ve ever seen! Here. Look at it! Don&#8217;t you agree?<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_ZiPiXEv_Q_g\/SjfUsmgyTcI\/AAAAAAAACjw\/snhXsFYPoco\/s1600-h\/Trilipix.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 265px; height: 400px;\" src=\"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/Trilipix.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347976945243147714\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>(Click image for an enlarged view.)<\/div>\n<p>Abbott surely has gone overboard to make sure to balance benefit information with risk information.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think the FDA had this in mind when it suggested in recent guidance that &#8220;As a general matter, risk and benefit information should be comparably noticeable or conspicuous in promotional pieces, and audiences should be able to read both risk and benefit information with similar ease&#8221; (see &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/communicating-risk-in-online-drug-ads.html\">Communicating Risk in Online Drug Ads: Reading the Tea Leaves in Recent FDA Draft Guidance<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>What we have here (in the Trilipix ad) is a failure to communicate anything at all! It&#8217;s not that the risks aren&#8217;t as EASY to read as the benefits; both the risk AND the benefits are DIFFICULT to read!<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_ZiPiXEv_Q_g\/SjfsneihfSI\/AAAAAAAACj4\/YBQEwbRLQ_E\/s1600-h\/VincentLindon_v_TrilipixGuy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 204px;\" src=\"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/VincentLindon_v_TrilipixGuy.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348003245482671394\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The only statement that stands out is &#8220;I didn&#8217;t realize there was more to the picture than just bad cholesterol.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of &#8220;pictures,&#8221; doesn&#8217;t the grizzled and disheveled character in the ad  look like the French actor Vincent Lindon who starred in the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/La_Moustache\">La Moustache<\/a>, which I just saw on cable TV?!<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Lindon on the left. Tell me that&#8217;s not him also on the right (ie, guy in ad)!<\/p>\n<p>Maybe this ad catches the attention of French movie buffs like me, but to Americans who don&#8217;t know Lindon from Depardieu, I&#8217;m sure they pass it right by.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just found this whole page ad for Trilipix in the June 22, 2009 issue of Newsweek magazine.
