{"id":6431,"date":"2012-04-24T17:42:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-24T17:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pharma-mkting.com\/janssen-uses-digital-storytelling\/"},"modified":"2019-02-21T01:19:41","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T01:19:41","slug":"janssen-uses-digital-storytelling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/janssen-uses-digital-storytelling\/","title":{"rendered":"Janssen Uses Digital Storytelling, Animation to &#8220;Bring Prescription Medicine Labeling to Life.&#8221; But Not iPhone or iPad Life!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever seen those animated stories any one can create using a service called &#8220;Xtranormal?&#8221; According to the web site, &#8220;Xtranormal helps you create amazing interactive stories with a few clicks and a little imagination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The following funny animation about medication adherence was created using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xtranormal.com\/about\/\">Xtranormal Movie Maker<\/a> by HealthPrize, a company that markets a drug adherence program that was featured Pharma Marketing News (read &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.pharma-mkting.com\/pmn113-article01.htm\">HealthPrize Teams Up with RealAge to Improve Adherence<\/a>&#8220;1; use discount code <b>hprze<\/b>).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YOD2fflXIfM\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Basically, you create a script, choose characters, scenery, gestures, etc. and&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;Ta-da! You&#8217;re instantly an animator, poet, pundit, educator or comic. Couldn&#8217;t be easier,&#8221; says&nbsp;Xtranormal.<\/p>\n<p>\nJanssen Therapeutics &#8212; a division of Janssen Products, LP, which is part of Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which in turn is a Johnson and Johnson company &#8212; is currently &#8220;piloting&#8221; a series of animations that remind me of Xtranormal scripted animations like the one above. The script for the Janssen pilot, however, comes from the patient information sheet that accompanies the prescription medicine PREZISTA\u00ae (darunavir), which is used in the treatment of HIV.<\/p>\n<p>To enhance patients\u2019 access to and use of this information, Janssen launched this pilot program &#8212; called The PREZISTA Zone (<a href=\"http:\/\/prezista.com\/prezistazone\">here<\/a>) &#8212; designed to &#8220;transform the experience of exploring this information online through digital storytelling and animation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Features include the story of Jacob, a man who has just been diagnosed with a &#8220;chronic disease&#8221; (ie, HIV infection), told through a series of seven animated clips that help illustrate sections of the Patient Information (read more about this&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/multivu.prnewswire.com\/mnr\/janssen\/55762\/\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, showing you the animations embedded in this blog post is problematic because they were created with Adobe Flash. If you have a flash-enabled browser, you&#8217;ll be able to view the &#8220;trailer&#8221; video created by Janssen. I have embedded that bit of flash code below. If, however, you are viewing the mobile version of this blog on your iPhone or iPad (two of the leading mobile devices used by physicians and by patients like Jacob), you won&#8217;t be able to see the &#8220;trailer.&#8221; You also won&#8217;t be able to view any of the animations over on the&nbsp;PREZISTA Zone web site.<\/p>\n<p>\nYou can see why these animations remind me of &#8220;movies&#8221; created with&nbsp;Xtranormal.<\/p>\n<p>The following screen shot shows Jacob&#8217;s physician explaining the side effects of&nbsp;PREZISTA to Jacob using what might be an iPad (probably would be in the real world).<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-Fs5enkwm5F4\/T5bbdR5G8OI\/AAAAAAAAEAI\/7TVeYrM4pt8\/s1600\/PREZISTAzone1.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"198\" src=\"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/PREZISTAzone1.png\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nToo bad Jacob&#8217;s physician can&#8217;t show Jacob the relevant PREZISTA Zone animation. She could be attending other patients while Jacob watched the animation and then answered any questions he may have had when she returned. That would have improved her practice. But she has to go through the list of side effects just as if she were reading them from the patient information sheet.
