{"id":6389,"date":"2012-07-06T14:44:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T14:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pharma-mkting.com\/drug-is-developed-easier-than-launching\/"},"modified":"2019-02-21T01:19:17","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T01:19:17","slug":"drug-is-developed-easier-than-launching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/drug-is-developed-easier-than-launching\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;A Drug is Developed:&#8221; Easier than Launching an Educational Facebook Game about Drug Development?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About six months ago in December, 2011, Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) teamed up with the Mainz Natural History Museum in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, to create &#8220;Ein Medicament Entsteht&#8221; (&#8220;The development of a medicine&#8221;), which was an educational exhibit seen by more than 30,000 visitors who &#8220;marvelled at the story of a drug&#8217;s development cycle from the first project outline through to market authorisation.&#8221; Here&#8217;s the YouTube video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UfT-amErLoo\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, back in October, 2011, BI&#8217;s @johnpugh was tweeting about a &#8220;kick-ass [Facebook} game&#8221; called Syrum, in which &#8220;a player must first investigate molecular compounds at a research desk before putting them to the test in the laboratory, then conduct clinical trials and, if successful, advance a treatment to market.&#8221; For more about this game read &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pharma-mkting.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/bis-facebook-game-syrum-to-be-launched.html\">BI&#8217;s Facebook Game Syrum to be Launched &#8216;When It&#8217;s Ready&#8217;.<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that Syrum has been much more difficult to &#8220;bring to market&#8221; than the Mainz Museum exhibit. Syrum is still not ready to be played and is &#8220;Coming Soon&#8221; (see screen shot below taken today when I clicked on the &#8220;How to Play&#8221; button).<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-v00ij5N0fYo\/T_b2jBQiBbI\/AAAAAAAAEYs\/xtH1BYmVssQ\/s1600\/Syrum_HowToPlayScr.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/ec2-54-175-84-28.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/pharma-mkting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Syrum_HowToPlayScr-1.jpg\" width=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m supposed to be a &#8220;beta tester&#8221; &#8212; someone who reviews the game before it is launched to the public &#8212; but, so far, I haven&#8217;t been given anything to test. I&#8217;m afraid this game might take longer to develop and bring to market than an actual drug!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, John Pugh continues to talk about Syrum at industry conferences. Most recently, Pugh presented at &#8220;Doctors 2.0 &amp; You\u2122&#8221; and he is scheduled to provide &#8220;A Detailed Update on the Development and Continued Use of Syrum&#8221; at ExL&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/MTG810c\">6th Annual Digital Pharma East<\/a> Unconference on October 17, 2012.
