Background

Companies as diverse as Eli Lilly and Company, Johnson and Johnson, MedTronics, Genzyme, Genentech and Pfizer have long made it a priority to hire a diverse array of people to run their businesses. These efforts are admirable, but have not been universally successful. While the ranks of diverse employees have swelled at these companies, some wonder whether it is wise to institute and pursue hiring policies where racial/ethnic background is a major consideration.

What’s often lost in this debate is a true picture of who these individuals are and what prepared them to assume positions of power and responsibility in the Life Sciences industry. The “Life Sciences Profiles of Color” blog aims partially to fill this gap by:

  • Highlighting the achievements and contributions of people of color in the Life Sciences industry, and
  • Encouraging and inspiring young professionals and students who are considering a career in the Life Sciences industry.
