By enrolling in PDRP, physicians in the U.S. can opt-out from having sales representatives and their District Managers from accessing information about their prescribing practices. The objective of PDRP is to strike a reasonable balance between the interests of those physicians who object to sales representatives knowing individual doctors’ prescribing history and the interests of other stakeholders (pharmaceutical companies, public health agencies, academia, and consumers) who benefit from insight into physicians’ prescribing decisions.

For PDRP to be effective, major players must regulate themselves, especially pharmaceutical companies and data providers. If the industry cannot police itself effectively, state legislatures in states like New Hampshire and Hawaii are likely to pass laws banning reps’ access to prescriber data. Although legislation has been introduced in several states this year, AMA’s PDRP has stalled most of the bills. Therefore, only successful self-regulation can keep such laws at bay.

Our 2006 event is the first and only market driven conference that provides the pharmaceutical industry with solutions and strategies for ensuring compliance with PDRP rather than simply implementing a technical plan to manipulate data according to a contractual obligation.

Key 2006 presentations include:

  • A look into the impact of New Hampshire’s bill to ban prescriber data on pharmaceutical marketing and sales
  • Solutions for ensuring the capture of all opted-out physician data
  • Strategies for guaranteed PDRP compliance
  • Blocking reverse engineering — Field-based training tactics

“If the industry cannot police itself effectively, state legislatures are likely to pass laws banning reps’ access to prescriber data. Legislation has been introduced in several states this year, but the prospect of the PDRP program has stalled most of the bills. Only effective self-regulation can keep such laws off the books.”
